How to Apply Plaster to Ceilings
Applying plaster to a ceiling can be a very messy job. It is a job that even a novice of the do it yourself world can carry out. There are a number of ways that you can do it and the process can be completed quickly by following a few simple steps.
Step One
Take a large cloth and cover the floor and all surrounding areas. Any bits of plaster that you drop or any dust that falls off will then fall onto the sheet and not onto your furniture.
Step Two
Put some tape all over the areas where the wall and joints join with the ceiling. You do not want to get plaster on these parts of the interior because it will make the finish of the ceiling look awkward and ugly.
Step Three
Use sandpaper to sand out any rough areas. This will stop the plaster from setting and having very visible large lumps sticking out from the ceiling.
Step Four
Using a sturdy ladder, make sure you can reach the ceiling and start applying the plaster with a flat trowel. Apply the plaster until the ceiling is completely covered and smooth out at all times.
Step Five
Allow the plaster to dry and then sand out any rough spots and apply more plaster in areas where the ceiling is not smooth. Under no circumstances should you apply wet plaster on wet plaster because the finish will be uneven and destroy the work already done.
